Etymology
Ușă descends from Latin ostium, meaning entrance, mouth, or doorway. Ostium itself was built on os, oris, the Latin word for mouth, extended to name an opening into a building. As the word passed into Romanian, its meaning settled specifically on door, while related forms survived in other Romance languages.
