Etymology

Ākhir comes from the Semitic root ʾ-kh-r, which carries the sense of being behind or coming later. From this root Arabic also builds ta'khīr (delay) and muta'akhkhir (late), so ākhir literally denotes the thing that comes after everything else, the end point. The root is Semitic, not Indo-European, so it has no PIE ancestor.
