Etymology
أَبْدَى is the Form IV verb built from the weak root ب-د-و. In Form I, بَدَا means "to appear" or "to seem." The Form IV pattern أَفْعَلَ adds a causative sense, so the root's meaning shifts from "to appear" to "to make appear," hence "to show" or "to reveal." This is an internal Arabic derivation, not a loanword, so there is no Indo-European root behind it.
