Etymology

أَنْجَز is a Form IV verb built on the native Arabic root ن-ج-ز (n-j-z), which carries the sense of completion or fulfillment. The base form نَجَزَ means for something, such as a promise or a debt, to come due or be fulfilled. The Form IV prefix أ- turns this into a causative sense: to make something reach completion, to finish it. Arabic is a Semitic language, so this root has no Indo-European origin.
