Etymology
أَنْجَى comes from the triliteral Semitic root ن-ج-و, whose base sense is to escape or be safe. The Form IV pattern أَفْعَلَ adds a causative meaning to the root, so أَنْجَى literally means to cause someone to escape, that is, to save them. This form is common in the Quran, where God is repeatedly described as the one who saves believers from danger.
