Etymology
The verb بَأَر comes from the triliteral Semitic root ب-أ-ر, the same root behind بئر, the Arabic word for a well. The core idea is putting something into the earth. Digging a hole for water and burying goods for safekeeping were treated as related acts, so the verb came to mean storing grain or valuables underground. The word survives mainly in classical dictionaries and older texts rather than daily speech.
