Etymology
آلِيَّة is a modern coinage built on the older noun آلة, meaning tool or machine. Arabic grammarians add the nisba ending ـِيّ to turn a noun into a relational adjective, then the feminine ة to make an abstract noun, much like English turns 'mechanic' into 'mechanism'. The result denotes the working method or apparatus behind a process, not a physical object itself.
