The verb comes from the Semitic triliteral root ن-ز-ع (n-z-ʕ), which carries the core sense of pulling something away by force. Classical Arabic dictionaries use it for removing clothing, extracting a tooth or weapon, and by extension for an inward pull or leaning toward something. Arabic is a Semitic language, not Indo-European, so it has no Proto-Indo-European root.
