Etymology
مَدار comes from the Arabic root د-و-ر, which carries the sense of turning or revolving. The word follows the مَفْعَل pattern used for nouns of place, so it literally denotes a place or path of turning. From there it settled into its main modern sense, the orbit of a celestial body, and extended metaphorically to any fixed course or scope that something revolves around.
