Etymology
بَتَّة comes from the Arabic root ب ت ت (batta), which means to cut something off completely and decisively. The base verb described severing a rope or closing a matter with no possibility of reversal. بَتَّة is the noun of a single instance from that root: one complete, final cut. Speakers extended that image to language itself, placing the word after a negative verb to say the matter is cut off entirely, with no exception left: 'not at all.'
