Etymology
بَصَر comes from the Arabic triliteral root ب-ص-ر, which covers the field of vision and perception. From the same root Arabic forms أَبْصَرَ (to see, to perceive), بَصِير (one who sees clearly, also an epithet of God), and بَصِيرة (insight, inner sight). The word appears often in the Quran, where it can mean both physical eyesight and the capacity for spiritual perception.
