تَأْمِين is the verbal noun of the form II verb أَمَّنَ, 'to make safe, to insure.' It grows from the Semitic root ʾ-m-n, the source of words for safety, trust, and faith. The same root gives أَمْن (security), إِيمَان (faith), and آمِين (Amen). The financial sense, insurance, became the standard meaning in the twentieth century.
