Etymology
سابِع is the ordinal 'seventh,' built from the Semitic root s-b-ʿ, which carries the meaning of the number seven. Arabic forms the ordinals from two through ten on the فاعِل (active participle) pattern, so سَبْعة 'seven' gives سابِع 'seventh.' The same root yields أُسْبوع, 'week,' the span of seven days. Words for seven and seventh recur across the Semitic family.
