Etymology
The verb comes from the Semitic root د-ر-ب (d-r-b), tied to the idea of a path or route (درب, darb) and, by extension, the experience gained from walking one repeatedly. Classical Arabic used دَرِبَ for becoming skilled through practice. Form II درّب turned this into a causative, to train someone, and Form V تدرّب adds a reflexive sense, to train oneself. This is an internal Arabic derivation, not a borrowing.
