Etymology

لَقْطَة comes from the triliteral root ل ق ط, a native Semitic root meaning to pick up or gather scattered things. The word itself is built on the فَعْلَة pattern, which marks a single instance of an action, so it literally means one act of picking something up. Arabic later stretched this sense to cover a camera catching a moment, giving the modern meaning of a photo or shot, and also a person catching a good deal, giving the meaning of a bargain.
