سُرُور comes from the Arabic triliteral root س-ر-ر, whose base verb سَرَّ means to please or gladden someone. سُرُور is the masdar, a verbal noun on the pattern فُعُول, and it names the state of being pleased: joy or delight. The same root gives مسرور (pleased) and سارّ (pleasing, gladdening).
