Etymology
The word is a direct borrowing of the international term "television." That term joins the Greek "tele," meaning far, with the Latin "visio," meaning sight. Arabic took the word in whole through French or English during the twentieth century. A native calque, "tilfaz," also exists, but the loanword remains common in speech.
