Etymology
The base noun تِلفِزيُون entered Arabic in the mid-20th century as a direct borrowing of French télévision, itself built from Greek têle ('far') and Latin visio ('sight, seeing'). Arabic then attached its native nisba suffix ـِيّ, the standard device for turning any noun into a relational adjective, to produce تِلفِزيُونِيّ, 'of or relating to television.' The word therefore has no Semitic root of its own; it is a European compound wearing Arabic grammar.
