Etymology
جرّاء comes from the Arabic root ج ر ر, whose basic verb جَرَّ means to drag, pull, or haul something along. جرّاء is an abstract noun built on this doubled root, picturing a cause as something that drags a train of results behind it. Classical and modern Arabic settled this noun into one fixed phrase, من جرّاء, which grammars simply gloss as because of or as a result of. Outside that phrase the word rarely appears on its own.
