Etymology
حَصَل comes from the Semitic triconsonantal root ح‑ص‑ل, which carries the idea of a result or outcome. From the sense of a result coming about, the verb took on two everyday meanings: something happening and someone obtaining something. The same root gives the verbal noun حُصُول and the noun مَحْصُول, a crop or yield.
