Etymology
خزانة comes from the Arabic root خ ز ن (kh-z-n), which carries the sense of storing or safekeeping. The same root gave مخزن (makhzan, storehouse), which passed into Italian as magazzino and French as magasin, and from there into English as magazine, originally a place of storage before it came to mean a periodical. خزانة itself names the piece of furniture built for that storing function, a cabinet or wardrobe.
