Etymology
دار comes from the Semitic root د-و-ر, which carries the sense of turning, circling, and surrounding. A house was understood as an enclosure, a space one moved around within and that closed in on its dwellers. The same root yields Arabic words for circle, orbit, and rotation. Cognate forms survive across other Semitic languages.
