Etymology
زُهُور is the plural of زَهْرَة, 'flower.' Both come from the Semitic root ز-ه-ر, which joins the sense of shining and brightness to that of blooming. The same root names the planet Venus in Arabic, الزُّهَرَة, 'the bright one.' Hebrew keeps the brightness sense in zohar, 'radiance.'
