Etymology
وَزْن is the verbal noun of the verb وَزَنَ, 'to weigh.' It comes from the Semitic triliteral root و-ز-ن, which carries the sense of measuring weight. From the same root Arabic builds مِيزان, 'the balance or scale.' The Hebrew word for scales, מֹאזְנַיִם (moznayim), traces to the same weighing root.
