Etymology
سائِل is the active participle of the hollow verb سالَ يَسيلُ, meaning to flow or run, from the Semitic root س-ي-ل. In this root's participle pattern, the weak middle radical ي shifts to a hamza seat, giving the form سائِل rather than a form with a plain ي. The word came to describe anything that flows, and by extension any substance in the liquid state.
