Etymology
شامِل comes from the Arabic root ش-م-ل, whose base verb شَمِلَ means to include, gather in, or spread over completely. شامِل is the active participle built on the فَاعِل pattern, so it literally means the thing or person that encompasses. Arabic is a Semitic language, not an Indo-European one, so it has no Proto-Indo-European root; its history runs through Classical Arabic rather than PIE. Related words such as شمول (comprehensiveness) and مشمول (included) share the same three root consonants with different vowel patterns.
