Etymology

Shaḥna comes from the native Arabic triliteral root sh-ḥ-n, whose verb shaḥana means to load a vessel or vehicle, and by extension to charge a battery. The noun pattern CaCCa here marks a single instance of that action, so shaḥna originally meant one load or one act of loading. Modern usage kept both senses: a shipment of goods and an electric charge. This is a native Semitic root, not a borrowing, and it has no established Indo-European cognate.
