Etymology
شَرِيك comes from the triliteral root ش-ر-ك (sh-r-k), whose core sense is sharing and partnership. It follows the faʿīl pattern, which often names a person defined by a role, here the one who shares. The same root gives شَرِكَة (company) and شِرْك (polytheism, the act of ascribing partners to God). Persian, Turkish, and Urdu later borrowed the word with the same meaning.
