Etymology

شَرْطِيّ derives from the Arabic root ش ر ط (sh-r-ṭ), whose verb شَرَطَ means to stipulate or set a condition. The noun شَرْط means condition or stipulation. Adding the nisba suffix ـِيّ, which forms relational adjectives, gives شَرْطِيّ, meaning pertaining to a condition, or conditional.
