Etymology
The word traces back to Abqar, a valley named in pre-Islamic Arabian lore as home to skilled, otherworldly jinn craftsmen and poets. From this name came the adjective abqarī, meaning something so masterfully made it seemed jinn-crafted. Over time abqarī narrowed to mean a person of extraordinary talent, and the abstract noun abqariyya was formed by adding the feminine abstract-noun suffix to name the quality itself: genius.
