Etymology
Farʕ comes from the Arabic triliteral root f-r-ʕ, whose core sense is branching, dividing, or rising away from a main stock. As a Semitic root it has no Indo-European ancestor, so no shared PIE root applies. The same root also gives fāriʕ, meaning tall or towering, and tafarraʕa, meaning to branch off, both built on the image of growth spreading upward and outward from a trunk.
