Etymology

تَعْوِيض comes from the Semitic root ع-و-ض (ʿ-w-ḍ), which carries the idea of substituting or making up for a loss. The word itself is the verbal noun of the Form II verb عَوَّضَ, meaning to give someone something in place of what they lost. Arabic is a Semitic language, not Indo-European, so it has no Proto-Indo-European root.
