Etymology

إسقاط is the verbal noun of أَسْقَطَ, the causative Form IV of the triliteral root س ق ط (saqaṭa, "to fall"). Form IV adds a causative sense to the base verb, so أسقط means "to make fall, to drop," and إسقاط names that act of causing something to fall, whether a person, a charge, a government, or a shadow on a plane. The root is native Semitic vocabulary and has no traceable link to Proto-Indo-European.
