Etymology
تَرْحِيب comes from the Semitic root ر ح ب (r-ḥ-b), which carries the sense of being wide or spacious. From this root Arabic built the verb رَحَّبَ, to welcome someone, and its verbal noun تَرْحِيب, the act of welcoming. The underlying image is of making room for a guest, opening a space for them rather than shutting them out.
