Etymology
قَبْض is the verbal noun of the verb قَبَضَ, to grasp or seize. The root ق-ب-ض carries the core idea of closing the hand on something, hence gathering, taking hold, and contracting. From this image come the modern senses of arrest, the collection of money, and bodily or spiritual contraction. It is cognate with Hebrew qāḇaṣ, to gather.
