Etymology
Qaṣd comes from the Arabic root q-ṣ-d, which carries the core sense of heading straight for something or aiming at a target. From this root Arabic built the verb qaṣada, to intend or make for, and the noun qaṣd, the mental act of aiming your will at a goal. Arabic is a Semitic language, not an Indo-European one, so there is no Proto-Indo-European root behind this word and no reliable Indo-European cognates.
