Etymology
قَوَّم comes from the triliteral Semitic root ق-و-م, whose base sense is to stand or rise. Form II doubles the middle radical, and this pattern often turns a simple verb into a causative one. So qawwama means to make something stand straight, and from there it extends to correcting behavior and to judging the worth of something.
