Etymology
قُلَّة comes from the root ق-ل-ل, which carries the core sense of smallness or scarcity, as in قليل (few, little). The noun pattern فُعْلَة turns that root into a concrete thing: the point where a mountain narrows down to almost nothing, its summit. The same root gives Arabic أقلّ (less) and استقلال (independence, literally standing on one's own small footing).
