Etymology
قِلادَة comes from the Arabic root ق-ل-د, which carries the core idea of placing something around the neck. The same root gives تقليد, meaning both tradition and imitation, from the image of one generation handing something down to be worn by the next. It also gives the verb قلّد, to award a medal or to imitate. This is a native Semitic root, not a borrowing from another language family.
