Etymology
كَما is a compound of the comparative proclitic كَ (ka, "like, as") and the relative element ما (mā, "what, that"). The first part goes back to a Proto-Semitic comparative particle *ka, and the second to a Proto-Semitic relative and interrogative *mā. Together they came to mark whole clauses of comparison, "as" or "just as." Arabic is a Semitic language, so it has no Proto-Indo-European root.
