لِحاق is the verbal noun (maṣdar) of the triliteral verb لَحِقَ, built on the Semitic root ل ح ق, which carries the core sense of reaching, following closely, and attaching to something ahead. The same root underlies related derived forms such as التحق (to enroll, to join) and ملحق (an appendix or an attaché, something attached). Arabic is a Semitic language, so it has no Indo-European ancestry and no PIE root.
