Etymology
The word comes from the triliteral root ط-ل-ب (ṭ-l-b), meaning to seek, request, or demand. It is the passive participle, built on the pattern maf'ūl, so it literally means the one or thing that is sought. From there it shifted to name a person hunted by the law and, in commerce, a thing in demand.
