Etymology
The word is the passive participle of the verb قَدَرَ, whose root means to measure out, to have power, and to decree. From the sense of measuring came the idea of an allotted portion, and from power came the idea of divine decree. So مَقْدُور names the thing that has been measured out or ordained, and by extension what lies within one's power.
