Etymology
مُبْتَدِئ is the active participle of the Form VIII verb ابتدأ (ibtadaʾa, "to begin"), itself built from the triliteral root ب-د-أ (b-d-ʾ), "to start, originate." Form VIII adds an infixed ت after the first root letter, often giving a reflexive or self-directed sense, so the word originally suggests one who sets something in motion for himself. Because Arabic is a Semitic language, it has no Indo-European ancestry to trace.
