Etymology
The word comes from the Arabic triliteral root ف-ج-ر (f-j-r), whose core sense is bursting or breaking forth. The same root gives فجر (fajr), the dawn, understood as light bursting over the horizon. مُتَفَجِّر is the active participle of the Form V verb تَفَجَّرَ, to burst open or explode, so it names something in the state of bursting forth violently.
