Etymology

مُسَجَّل is the passive participle of the Form II verb سَجَّل (sajjala), "to record or register." That verb comes from the noun سِجِلّ (sijill), "register, record, or scroll," which many lexicographers trace to the Latin sigillum, "seal," borrowed into Arabic through Aramaic and Greek administrative usage in the early Islamic period. The doubled middle radical of سَجَّل marks the intensive or causative Form II pattern, giving the sense "to put on the record."
