Etymology
مُغْرَم is the passive participle of the Form IV verb أَغْرَمَ, meaning to make someone infatuated. Both trace to the root غ ر م, which in its base sense concerns being burdened by loss or debt. From that idea of being weighed down came the extended sense of being overtaken by desire, the way a debt or a fine takes hold of a person against their will.
