Etymology
نَظَر comes from the Semitic root n-ẓ-r, which carried the sense of watching or guarding. The same root appears in Hebrew נָצַר, to watch or keep, and in Akkadian naṣāru, to guard. In Arabic the meaning shifted toward the act of looking and, by extension, of examining or considering.
