Etymology
أَكْثَر is the elative form of the adjective كَثِير (kathīr), "much, many." Both come from the triliteral root ك-ث-ر (k-th-r), which carries the sense of being numerous or abundant. The elative pattern أَفْعَل (ʾafʿal) builds the comparative and superlative, so أَكْثَر means "more" or "most."
