Etymology
Nuzūl is the masdar, or verbal noun, of the Arabic verb nazala, meaning to descend or come down. It follows the fuʿūl pattern common to verbs of motion and change of state, the same pattern seen in words like dukhūl (entering) and khurūj (exiting). The root n-z-l is old and shared across Semitic languages, and it carries a consistent core sense of downward movement or settling in place.
